What is the World Cup
It is the most important football championship for men, and it takes place each 4 years. It is organized by the FIFA (the International Federation of Association Football).
The national teams, that are members in the International Federation, have been competing in playing football since 1930.
However, this championship has stopped in the years 1942 and 1946 as a result of the World War Two.

It is well known that the world cup takes place in one country. However, the surprise this time is that FIFA announced that the world cup 2026 will be hosted by three countries which are Mexico, Canada and the United States.
In fact, this is the first time that FIFA allows more than one country to host the world cup since 2002, and the very first time that two countries participate in it.

What are the hosting cities of the Mondial 2026
FIFA stated that there are 16 cities that host the Mondial 2026 after a remarkable competition among the three countries to host the football matchs.
And the FIFA decided that:
- Canada hosting is in the two cities:
- Toronto (BMO Field)
- Vancouver
- Mexico hosting is in three cities which are:
- Mexico City (Estadio Azteca)
- Monterey (Estadio BBVA)
- Guadalajara (Estadio Omnilife)
- The United States has the biggest share in hosting the world cup in 11 cities:
- Seattle (CenturyLink Field)
- New York/ New Jersey (MetLife Stadium)
- San Francisco (Levi’s Stadium)
- Los Angeles (Rose Bowl Stadium)
- Atlantic city (Mercedes-Benz Stadium)
- Houston (NRG Stadium)
- Kansas City (Arrowhead Stadium)
- Dallas (Dallas Cowboys Stadium)
- Philadelphia (Lincoln Financial Field)
- Miami (Sun Life Stadium)
- Boston (Cleveland Browns Stadium)
What is new about the World Cup 2026
- Usually, 32 teams participate in the world cup finals. However, this time FIFA decided that 48 countries, from different continents, are going to take part in the world cup 2026.
- Although the finals of world cup 2022 are taking place in Qatar in November and December due to the high temperature in the Gulf countries, the timeline of the world cup 2026 will be returned to take place in June and July as usual.
- The USA will host the most matchs including the semi-finals and finals.
- It will be the first time that Canada is going to host the world cup. While Mexico will host the world cup for the third time after hosting the Mondial in 1970 and 1986.
